Tell us a little bit about the history of your venue: The Armory was built in 1891 by the National Guard as a facility for storing ammunition and running drills. Across the years it was used for a variety of events in Portland and eventually landed as a warehouse for the breweries in the area. Our company, Portland Center Stage, acquired the building and renovated the space for live theater productions, completing renovations in 2006. We now host live theater 6 nights of the week, 10 months of the year. During the daytime and our off-season, we rent the space to clients for all types of events, including weddings!
How many weddings do you hold a year? We host a handful of weddings a year during our production off-season, anywhere between 10-20 weddings on average.
Do you offer a day of coordinator? The Armory does not provide a day of coordinator, but we will have an event lead to assist our couples in making the day special. Our event lead can provide light coordination, including assistance with vendor load in, timeline management, and ceremony entrances. We are also happy to work with coordinators hired by our couples!
How many guests can your venue hold? 200 guests for a combined ceremony & reception, 250 guests for a seated dinner and reception, and 450 guests for a standing reception only.
Do you allow outside catering options? The Armory works with an exclusive list of caterers who have extensive experience working in our space and can accommodate a wide variety of styles and flavors.
Where does your venue draw inspiration? Are there any upcoming changes you are excited about? As the home of a live-theater company, The Armory embodies the intersection of community and history. We draw inspiration from bringing stories to life in unexpected ways and provide a unique, personalized experience for couples to bring their stories into our space for an unforgettable evening!
Why should couples book their wedding at your venue? At The Armory, every wedding is unique. We are here to help our clients realize their vision and spend the day enjoying their celebration, rather than stressing about the details. That is why we created an inclusive package that covers all the basics needed for the day, and a full staff on site to ensure everything is running smoothly. Plus, we have air conditioning in the summer!
