AJ and her son are from Louisiana…. where the state song is “You Are My Sunshine.” But on the day of our session, there was absolutely no sunshine to be found! It was a cold, wet morning, and although I had offered to reschedule them, due to their travel dates – these troopers decided to go ahead as planned and have their fun family session outdoors in all the glory that is Oregon! AJ brought a blanket for them to snuggle in, and while the rain poured down around us, we stayed under the cover at Hoyt Arboretum. As I watched these two interact with each other, making silly faces, playing rock, paper, scissors, and having a staring contest… I had an epiphany. Sunshine isn’t just a weather pattern. It can also be a state of mind, a feeling, a way of being. Watching these two laugh and play – I could see the chill of the cold damp day melting away and by the time we wrapped the session the blanket had been surrendered, and I knew that these two truly are each other’s sunshine!
