John & Rachel

I have long been a proponent of weddings with a little flair. I love it when the couple comes from a different background because I feel it adds a little flavor to the mix. In this case, John was Nigerian and having spent some time on the continent of Africa, I knew that the flavor was going to be broughten. The colors, just the colors were out of this world. I loved it. Not only that, they decided to have their ceremony and reception at Oba! which, if you haven’t gone, you need to turn in your Portland card. I’ve been looking forward to this wedding for months. They started out the day at the Sentinel, which if you haven’t gone, you need to turn in your Portland card. The remodel was bigger and better than I could have imagined and I thought it was the perfect place for these two to start their celebration. Much thanks to Powder Inc. for keeping the bride and attendants looking stunning. I felt that everything fell into place…I mean, I just happened to match their color scheme with my clothing choice. If that wasn’t meant to be, I don’t know what is more meant to be than, what….I mean….nevermind. Anyways…back to the couple, we did the first look down in the lobby of the hotel and we were off. The cool thing about Oba! is that it’s situated close to some pretty awesome locations. Let’s skip to the reception. Rachel and John warned me that Nigerians like to get down so I wasn’t surprised when his family and all their colorful awesomeness were cutting a rug. Again, I love different traditions from around the world. Especially ones that kind of make me want to join that culture. So…apparently, during the first dance between the bride and groom, it’s Nigerian tradition to shower them with money. Uh….yes please. Not only was it financially a windfall for the couple but it was also really sweet to capture. Literally, it was raining dollar, dollar bills y’all. At the end of the night, John, Rachel and I snuck out for a little photo R&R and found some pretty fresh spots in the Pearl. Pongezi! to John and Rachel!
