Haylee & Zachary

Met up with Haylee and Zachary at Cathedral Park for a fun engagement shoot. We had great early evening light and wonderful weather. It was great working with these two, they are very sweet together.

Zachary serves in the armed forces, and they explained to me the symbolism behind military spouses wearing yellow ribbons in their hair. Its roots trace back to WWII, where wives with husbands fighting overseas would wear yellow ribbons in their hair as a display of support and solidarity. This is where the popular yellow “Support Our Troops” car magnets come from. At the end of the tour, a returning soldier would untie the yellow ribbon from his wife’s hair. At the end of our shoot, Zachary untied the ribbon from Haylee’s hair and handed it back to her. I love the meaning behind those photos, and it was my favorite part of the day.

Another Powers photographer will be taking good care of these two on their upcoming wedding day. I wish I could be the one to shoot it, but I’m happy to know they are in good hands photo wise. Best wishes you two!
