So Much More Than Playing Music At A Wedding – Mobile Music DJs
A good wedding DJ does much more that just “play music”. Whenever we hear that couples are thinking about using an iPod for the wedding music, we cringe. This isn’t because we miss out on their business, but it’s the fact that we can almost guarantee they’ll be disappointed. We’ve heard stories from past weddings where an iPod was used and a family friend was the emcee. The music was choppy, the family friend didn’t really know what to say or when to say it and the overall flow was off. Of course it sounds great to create your own playlist with the songs you want and save some money, but please trust us when we say that this is not the place to do it.
First and foremost, a DJ should listen to the couple and help them create the musical environment they are looking for. Each couple is different, so a good DJ should be able to allow for any necessary adjustments to make this happen (creating your own playlist, check). If you did try to use an iPod, you’d also need to rent, setup and run your own set of DJ equipment -that by itself not cheap or convenient. A professional DJ owns their equipment, sets it all up and takes care of all the details that come with running it (even having a backup set in case something is not working).
Although all of what was said above is relevant and important, it’s the emcee side of a professional DJ that is most valuable. Having the privilege of DJing weddings for over 13 years has allowed us to refine these skills hundreds of times over. Knowing what to say, when to say it and having the ability to make adjustments on the fly, without your guests ever knowing, makes a huge difference. No matter what, having a seamless and polished event is what every bride and groom wants on their big day. This is why having a professional DJ is a must.
