Jesse & Shannon

I had a lot of fun with Shannon and Jesse for their engagement shoot. The weather had been pretty shifty earlier in the day, but lo and behold, things turned out great by the time we met up in the evening. These two have great chemistry and I was really amused by their banter as we were walking from spot to spot. I’m really looking forward to working with them again at their wedding later this year!

We finished the shoot on the Eastbank Esplanade, using a launch pier I’d not shot at before. It provides an excellent view of the Hawthorne bridge and the skyline behind it. We had to displace a fair amount of geese who were just chilling for the evening (sorry guys!) but those shots on the pier at dusk were awesome! I love being able to both catch the water and skyline in wide shots, but also throwing those city lights way out of focus in the background for close ups, not just romantic… it looks really cool too! Really technical I know. The actual term of how different camera lenses render light points out of focus is called bokeh. The more aperture blades there are within your lens, the smoother and more pleasing your background bokeh looks. So — pro level, expensive lens means good looking bokeh.
