Sonko is from Kenya. Corinne is from Oregon. Based on my own personal experience, Africa is a world away and a long, long flight from Oregon. It’s amazing how sometimes, things work together to bring two people together. A common love for children and those in need of families provided the meeting place for these two. It was great talking with these two prior to the wedding getting to know them and discussing our common affection for Africa, it’s people and it’s many cultures. I spent some time in Africa last year and it was so awesome talking to people who’ve been there and experienced some of the same things I have. They were both passionate about orphans which is a subject near and dear to my own heart. I love it when the couples I photograph become more than just clients. Corinne and Sonko’s wedding day was awesome. Breezy and warm and sunny with a little hint of rain. Towards the end of the moving ceremony, Corinne’s brother Mike and her friend Mary collaborated on a beautiful song for the couple. Also, to honor Sonko’s parents who weren’t able to make the trip from Kenya, everyone waved a hello to the video camera’s behind them that captured the momentous occasion. After some fun photos down the street we made our way back to the reception. Everyone was having a good time and hugs were being passed around like a cold in a kindergarten class. Yes, Corinne and Sonko had to overcome what seemed like insurmountable odds during their courtship. Sometimes faith and love is all you can count on and in the end, that’s all you really need.
